Cullowhee, N.C. - Three Western Carolina football games, including two at E.J. Whitmire Stadium/Bob Waters Field, are scheduled to be televised on two different networks. The Catamounts' Southern Conference road opener at Georgia Southern (Sept. 29) and home dates against upstate SoCon foes, Wofford (Oct. 25) and Furman (Nov. 17), are slated to be broadcast.

Western Carolina's 18th all-time meeting with Georgia Southern, originally scheduled for a 6:00 pm kickoff at Paulson Stadium in Statesboro, Ga., was moved to a 3:30 pm start to accommodate the Comcast/Charter Southeast Sports (CSS) broadcast. CSS reaches 5.7 million households across 12 Southern states.

The Catamounts' home meeting with the Wofford Terriers has been moved from Saturday, Oct. 27 to Thursday, Oct. 25, and will be a national broadcast on ESPNU, a 24-hour college sports network which launched in March, 2005. Western is 8-4 all-time against the Terriers in Cullowhee, with the Catamounts blanking Wofford, 24-0, in the most recent meeting at WCU in 2005.

This season marks the fifth time since 1978 that the Catamounts have appeared on the ESPN family, including parent company, ABC. Western's first-ever television appearance came regionally on ABC in 1978 against arch-rival Appalachian State in Cullowhee. The following year, 1979, in just the second game ever telecasted by ESPN, Western dropped a close 35-27 affair with arch-rival, Appalachian State, in Boone. In 1983, ABC aired Western's appearance in the I-AA National Championship game with Southern Illinois nationally. The most recent ESPN broadcast was in Cullowhee in 1988 against East Tennessee State, a 33-23 Catamount victory.

Also slated to be broadcast is the 2007 regular season finale against Furman in Cullowhee on Sat., Nov. 17, on CSS. This season marks the third-straight season that the WCU-Furman game has had television coverage. Two years ago, WBSC-TV was witness to the 41-21 upset win over the second-ranked Paladins in the most recent game in Cullowhee. Last season, Furman defeated Western in a battle of top 25 teams in Greenville, S.C., on CSS-TV.

"We are excited about having three football games televised this season, especially with two being at home including the national broadcast of the Thursday night game with Wofford on ESPNU," said WCU Athletics Director Chip Smith.

Additionally, fans of Southern Conference football can also catch a total of seven televised games across the conference this season on SportSouth, it was announced by Commissioner John Iamarino. Six of the games will be SoCon productions.

Western Carolina will open the 2007 football season with a trio of road games at Alabama (Sept. 1), at Eastern Kentucky (Sept. 8) and at Georgia (Sept. 15). The Catamounts open their home schedule on Saturday, Sept. 22 against Presbyterian as a part of the second-toughest, Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) non-conference schedule, according to The Sports Network.
