2008 Southern Conference Tournament Bracket 
CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The official pairings were released Saturday evening by the Southern Conference office for the 2008 Women's Basketball Championships. Western Carolina, who locked in a No. 2 seed last Saturday after defeating Georgia Southern, will await the winner of No. 7 seed Furman and No. 10 seed Wofford. The Lady Catamounts will tip-off Friday March 7 at 10 a.m. at North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, S.C.
The No. 2 seed for Western Carolina is just the third time in school history the Lady Cats have placed second or higher. Western Carolina was a No. 2 seed in 2002-03 and earned the No. 1 seed in the Southern Conference Tournament in 2006-07.
Head Coach Kellie Harper is looking to take her team to the tournament finals for the third time in her four year career at the helm of the Lady Catamount basketball program. In her first season, in 2004-05, Harper led her 6th seeded Lady Cats to its first Southern Conference Tournament title. The following year, 2005-06, Harper's team reached the semi-finals as the fifth seed. Last season, 2006-07, Western Carolina reached the finals for the second time in three years before falling to Chattanooga, 84-66.
Chattanooga earned the top-seed in the 2008 Southern Conference Tournament. The top-seeded Lady Mocs (26-3. 18-0), who recently completed a perfect 18-0 SoCon mark during regular season play, will face either eighth-seeded Appalachian State (8-21, 5-13) or No. 9 seed UNC Greensboro (6-23, 4-14), on Friday, March 7 at approximately 12:30 p.m. The Mountaineers and Spartans face off in the second game of the tournament with an approximate tip of 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 6.
In addition to Chattanooga and Western Carolina, Davidson, Georgia Southern, College of Charleston and Elon have also earned first round byes in the tournament. Davidson (19-10, 13-5) earned the third seed by virtue of a regular season sweep of Georgia Southern and will take on sixth-seeded Elon (11-19, 6-12) at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 8.
Georgia Southern (17-12, 13-5) is seeded fourth and is matched up against the tournament's fifth seed, College of Charleston (13-15, 9-9). The Lady Eagles and the Cougars will tip off at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
The winners of the quarterfinal round games will face off in the semifinals on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Both semifinal games and the championship game, which tips at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, will be televised by SportSouth.
